$84 Million Circuit and Device Inspection and Repair Program
This aggressive, ongoing inspection/maintenance program will help AmerenUE identify, repair, and/or replace poles and other equipment before potential failures occur. This marks the start of an ongoing “foot patrol” inspection program that will cycle every two years through urban areas and every three years through rural areas in AmerenUE’s region. Our tree-trimmers will provide additional visual inspections, as well.

Prior to 2007, AmerenUE inspected subtransmission poles and limited distribution poles. Inspection of distribution lines was performed by tree-trimmers in conjunction with their normal tree-trimming responsibilities. Before this program, we did not inspect such distribution line equipment as reclosers, capacitors, and voltage regulators. This new program includes a comprehensive inspection of all AmerenUE distribution line poles, hardware, and equipment. Older poles that continue to meet strength requirements will receive treatment with a fumigant to extend their lifespan. Poles that fail to meet strength requirements will be replaced or reinforced, as appropriate.

This inspection/maintenance effort is aided by new technology that enables us to check the integrity of our lines throughout our distribution system.

The program marks an early adoption of the 2007 National Electrical Safety Code, which will result in a more robust overhead distribution system, as well. As part of this inspection/repair program, we will install stronger poles for 69kV and 34kV overhead circuits going forward.
